Wear
the Question,
Not the Answer.

T-shirts for the perpetually curious. Socrates died for your right to overthink your wardrobe.

Therefore I Am, I Think shirt
"The unexamined life is not worth living — but an unexamined shirt is just a rag." — Goonyshirts

Clothing that makes you think before you get dressed.

Every Goonyshirt begins with a big idea — a question that has rattled around the skulls of the greatest thinkers in history. We then print it on a really comfortable shirt.

We believe philosophy is too important to be locked in academia. Bring Nietzsche to the farmer's market. Take Camus to the gym. Let Wittgenstein ruin your dinner party.

"The more I read, the more I acquire, the more certain I am that I know nothing — which is why I buy another shirt."
— Voltaire (paraphrased, liberally)

We exist because ideas deserve to be worn.

Philosophy is not an ivory tower exercise. It is the original punk. It questions authority, disturbs comfort, and insists on honesty in a world of convenient fictions.

Goonyshirts was born from the belief that the best conversations happen when something on your chest makes a stranger stop and think. Or laugh. Or argue with you at a bus stop.

We work with ethically sourced fabrics, local printers, and big, uncomfortable ideas. Each shirt is a provocation, gently laundered.

"The question is not whether you can think — it's whether your outfit is doing it for you."

Traditions

Philosophy has given humanity its most enduring questions. Here are the traditions that have shaped how we think, doubt, and wonder.

🏛️
Stoicism
Born in ancient Athens, Stoicism teaches that virtue is the only true good. Marcus Aurelius, Epictetus, and Seneca showed us that we cannot control the world — only our response to it. Equanimity in all things.
🌑
Existentialism
Sartre declared existence precedes essence — we are thrown into the world with no predetermined purpose. Camus, de Beauvoir, and Kierkegaard wrestled with radical freedom, authenticity, and the burden of choice.
🎭
Absurdism
Camus argued that life has no inherent meaning — and that's okay. The absurd hero embraces this contradiction and revolts against meaninglessness with passion and freedom. One must imagine Sisyphus happy.
🔬
Empiricism
Locke, Hume, and Berkeley insisted all knowledge comes from experience and the senses. The mind begins as a blank slate. Nothing exists in the intellect that was not first in the senses.
🧠
Rationalism
Descartes, Spinoza, and Leibniz trusted reason over the senses. Cogito ergo sum — I think therefore I am. Truth is discovered through pure reason and innate ideas, not merely through what we observe.
🌊
Taoism
The Tao that can be named is not the eternal Tao. Laozi's ancient Chinese philosophy teaches harmony with the natural order, the power of non-action, and the wisdom of flowing like water around obstacles.
⚖️
Ethics
From Aristotle's virtue ethics to Kant's categorical imperative to Mill's utilitarianism — philosophy has always asked what it means to live well and act rightly. The examined life is the ethical life.
💀
Nihilism
Nietzsche declared God is dead — and with him, absolute values and universal truth. Nihilism confronts the void head-on. Far from being depressing, it can be the first step toward creating your own meaning.
